Volunteering at Vancouver 2010 and/or the 2009 Canada Post Freestyle Grand Prix at Cypress Mountain

Vancouver, BC, June 14, 2008 – Anyone interested in volunteering at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, or our Freestyle FIS World Cup at Cypress Mountain this coming winter, MUST register with VANOC (the organizers of Vancouver 2010) before the end of June this year.

VANOC will be handling all volunteer registrations for our World Cup this coming year so if you want to be a volunteer next February or in 2010, please click here (PDF 114 KB) and go on line and register now.

In order to ensure that you get into the “Freestyle pool” of volunteer applicants, you should follow these instructions: On the last page of the application form, there is a box titled “for office use only” – enter the following code in that space: SPNNFR13.

General Motors Coaching Grants available

Making Dreams Possible online applications are now available
The Coaching Association of Canada is pleased to announce that the General Motors Making Dreams Possible club coaching grant and high performance coach grant applications are now back online.

Dedicated to supporting athletes at all levels through coaching excellence, General Motors’ Making Dreams Possible Program provides one hundred $2,000 club coaching grants and ten $10,000 high performance coach grants to community sport clubs and high performance coaches nationwide on an annual basis.

In just its second year, this program has already impacted over 9,000 coaches and nearly 110,000 athletes in 171 communities across the country.

This fall, another 50+ $2,000 grants will be awarded to community sport clubs across the country for coach training and development. The application deadline is September 26, 2008. High performance coach grants will be awarded again in February 2009.

Les demandes en ligne pour le programme Du rêve à la réalité sont maintenant disponibles
L’Association canadienne des entraîneurs est fière d’annoncer que, dans le cadre du programme Du rêve à la réalité de General Motors, les demandes de subventions offertes aux clubs pour l’entraînement et aux entraîneurs et entraîneures de haute performance sont de retour en ligne.

Dédié à appuyer annuellement les athlètes de tous les niveaux en leur offrant un entraînement hors pair, le programme Du rêve à la réalité de General Motors octroie cent subventions de 2 000 $ offertes aux clubs pour l’entraînement et dix subventions de 10 000 $ offertes aux entraîneurs et entraîneures de haute performance, et ce, aux clubs de sport communautaire et aux entraîneurs et entraîneures de haute performance à l’échelle nationale.

Seulement à sa deuxième édition, ce programme a déjà touché plus de 9 000 entraîneurs et entraîneures et près de 110 000 athlètes provenant de 171 communautés dans tout le pays.

Cet automne, au moins 50 autres subventions de 2 000 $ seront octroyées aux clubs de sport communautaire au pays pour la formation et le développement des entraîneurs et entraîneures. La date limite pour soumettre votre demande de subvention est le 26 septembre 2008. Les subventions offertes aux entraîneurs et entraîneures de haute performance seront octroyées en février 2009.

Don’t miss the experience of a lifetime! Volunteer for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Anyone interested in volunteering for the 2010 Winter Games needs to fill out the Games-time volunteer application form. With over 25,000 volunteers expected for the Games, the volunteer application form will help the Organizing Committee most efficiently capture your skills, background and qualifications, as well as your availability to volunteer.

If you can’t wait for 2010, you can get involved in Sport Events. Sport Events are a fantastic way to build your volunteer portfolio and gain experience working at the same venues where the Games will be held in 2010. This experience is a valuable asset when applying for a Games-time role. To apply for a Sport Event volunteer position, click ‘yes’ to Sport Events under ‘Availability and Preferences’ on your Games-time volunteer application form.
