What is a Juniper Jam?

The goal of the Juniper Jams is to develop versatility and diversity for children in the FUNdamentals phase of the LTAD (Long Term Athlete Development). Through the creative use of terrain, the festival style environments combine freestyle and race features all in the same course, often in a dual format. Each host venue offers a unique course depending on the steepness, width and variation in terrain which really adds to the variety, fun and challenge of each event.

After a successful launch of the new U10 Juniper Jam events in 2015, Alpine Ontario Alpin (AOA) and Freestyle Ontario (FO) are excited to bring the series back for the 2016 season!

Last winter, eight resorts hosted a Juniper Jams event with almost 30 different resorts taking part in the series. Some took part in up to five events – they loved the excitement and challenge of the courses that were a combination of freestyle and alpine elements.

Plan for 2016

  • One day Juniper Jam FUNSki events will be set up at 8 – 10 resorts throughout Ontario for 7 – 9 year olds (as of Dec. 31st , 2015).
  • Create an additional environment at each Juniper Jam that is specific to developing and promoting the values of the project.

Coach Professional Development

Once again, the Freestyle Canada Club Coach and CSCF Entry Level coaching courses will be offered at a subsidized rate for coaches working with this age group. Having coaches certified in both streams is an important part of the FUNSki program. Coaches must already be certified in one stream to be eligible to attend.  Information on the registration process will be sent directly to the clubs. (Tentative date: Dec. 18 – 20, 2015 at MSLM).
